Are automatic pet feeders worth it?
The short answer
For dry food on a fixed schedule, yes: an automatic feeder serves measured portions on time, but it is not a substitute for someone checking on your pet.
Automatic feeders solve two real problems: the pet who wakes you at dawn for breakfast, and keeping meal times steady on long workdays.
What makes a good one
Portions you can set precisely, a hopper that does not jam with your kibble size, a lid a determined pet cannot open, and battery backup so a power cut does not skip a meal.
Camera models let you see that the food came out. Check whether the app needs a subscription before you buy.
Where they stop
They are for dry food. Wet food spoils in a hopper. And a feeder cannot tell you your pet is unwell, so for trips longer than a day, someone still needs to visit.
