Do pet water fountains help cats drink more?
The short answer
Many cats prefer moving, fresh water and drink more from a clean fountain, but not every cat does, and a fountain only helps if it is cleaned.
Cats are famously fussy drinkers, and plenty of owners find their cat drinks more from a fountain than a bowl. It is a preference, not a guarantee.
Why fountains appeal
Moving water stays cooler and tastes fresher, and some cats simply like watching it. A filter catches hair and debris between cleanings.
Keeping it worth having
Take it apart and wash it every week or two, and change the filter on the maker's schedule. A slimy fountain puts cats off faster than a bowl.
Place it away from the food bowl and the litter box. Many cats will not drink next to either.
If your cat is suddenly drinking much more or much less than usual, that is a question for your vet, not for a new bowl.
